Adrienne is Stacey’s younger sister.

Which means Stacey has known her long enough to be quite certain about three things: she can be trusted, she knows how to handle herself, and she has never met an animal she couldn’t love.

That second one comes with credentials.

Adrienne spent her career in law enforcement, ultimately serving as a detective before retiring. It was work that demanded good judgment, attention to detail, discretion and the ability to remain calm when circumstances were anything but.

Today, Adrienne also works as an accounting manager for the family demolition business. Apparently, noticing when things don’t add up is a transferable skill.

Those are pretty useful qualities when someone hands you the keys to their home.

Animals have always been part of Adrienne’s life, too. Growing up six years behind Stacey meant sharing the same house, the same childhood and much of the same revolving cast of creatures - with the addition of hamsters.

As an adult, that continued with Tank, an English Bulldog; Dexter, a Border Collie mix; and six cats, including Puck, a rescue kitten who shared 19 years of life with her. And then there’s Mei-Ling, her 16-year-old Pekingese, who is still very much here and very much accustomed to having things done her way.

None of them were ever simply pets.

Those relationships have shaped the way Adrienne thinks about caring for other people’s animals. She understands that when someone asks Haven to care for a pet, they aren’t handing us a list of feeding instructions and a house key.

They’re entrusting us with family.

And when it comes to the home itself, having a retired detective keeping an eye on things certainly doesn’t hurt.
